  • Theme 1. Bioanthropological collections and archives

Bioanthropological collections play an essential role in our discipline.

Since the cabinets of curiosities and the discoveries of the first excavations and scientific missions to the comprehensive collections of most recent studies they are the principal reference base for defining present and fossil human variability.

The session will cover the different scientific, logistical and ethical problems related to the creation and maintenance of anthropological collections and archives (osteology, biometric, photographic etc) as well as their scientific, heritage and educational value.

  • Theme 2. Shore populations

Coastal, island and lake populations as well as fishing societies differ from those that live inland. The history of settlement of these regions has influenced the genetic pools (founder effect, isolation etc) as well as their general morphology and phenotype.

Maritime and lacustrine environments, which are often distinctive, also have an impact on the way of life of the people, as to nutrition, activities or specific pathologies.

  • Theme 3. Current research

As for each of our annual meetings we invite you to present your recent or ongoing research in any of the areas of biological anthropology.
